mp3tunes

I've been trying to use mp3tunes since I read about the service while updating my squeezecenter last weekend. Trying to upload files has been awful. It crashes often and hogs all the resources on my computer.

Clearly this wasn't tested on a configuration like mine.

This afternoon, I started writing down what was happening when I saw it. I'm not baby-sitting the thing, but I am making notes:

At 2PM Friday, there are about 56 hours left, we're doing Elton John. In 4:17, it had moved 320 tracks. That's about 75/hour. 4537 tracks left.It skipped a lot of Elton John and Costello tracks

2:15PM, the computer crashed. It ran out of memory. I got a complaint about increasing virtual memory and then it died. I rebooted.

2:25PM, I'm running the sync program again, and it's searching for files on the PC.

3:00PM Synced up 26 tracks, 4513 remaining.Working on Elvis Costello, it went back and found the files it had skipped before. Memory useage is aroung 750k.

3:10PM It's suddenly using all of the CPU. It must be either because it just finished a dirctory or becuase it's about to start one. It's not moving any data. Oboe is slowly taking more and more memory. There's no indication of what it's working on. Synced up 36 tracks, 4503 remaining. 29 minutes elapsed.

3:15PM Memory useage has ramped up to 1,030kB, CPU useage is right around 80%. Still not moving any data. Just sitting here churning electrons.

3:17PM Moving data again. CPU use dropped to 10%, Memory use continues to grow. We're at 1,140l now.

3:22PM Paused it because the Emily Remler files are all screwed up. I went into the directory and deleted everything except the file that was being moved let's see how it handles that.

3:22PM Did it just fine, checked them all and moved on. Running fine, moving files.

3:41PM Low on Virtual Memory. Shut down sync. I had to kill the process using task manager.

4:05PM Restarted sync. Memory use is about 670k.

4:05PM It's doing the initial step of searching for music on this PC. Using 100% of the CPU.

5:56PM Memory at 1,380k synced up 113 tracks, 4305 remaining. It estimates 56 hours and 36 minutes left

6:00PM It's stopped sending data again and it's using a lot of the CPU (70%). Memory is up to 1,500k.

8:40PM A ton of "Your system is low on virtual memory" warnings from windows. Also a bunch of errors from the Linksys Wireless Network Monitor. the sync program isn't running anymore. Memory useage is back down to 650k.

8:43PM So I restart the sync program.
